YouTube title checker — length limit and live preview
Type your title and see it counted against YouTube's 100-character limit, then previewed in cards that look like the desktop home feed, the phone feed, search results and the Shorts shelf. Add a thumbnail and a second title to compare A and B side by side. Nothing leaves your browser.

Approximate preview: YouTube changes its layouts, and where a title is cut depends on the screen and the font. The 100-character limit is from YouTube Help (checked Nov 6, 2026).
Next step: animate it
What is the YouTube title character limit?
According to YouTube Help, video titles can be up to 100 characters. That's the hard limit: YouTube Studio won't accept more. But the limit and what people actually see are different things — most layouts show two lines or less, so a long title gets cut with an ellipsis well before 100 characters.
Where exactly it's cut depends on the width of the letters, not just their number: “WWW” is much wider than “iii”. That's why this checker renders your title with a similar font and lets the browser break the lines, instead of guessing from a character count.
Writing titles that survive the cut
Put the hook and the main keyword at the start, where every layout shows them; leave the details for the end. Use capitals for one or two words at most. On Shorts, the title often shares space with the video itself, so short and concrete wins.
If you're unsure between two ideas, write both and switch between A and B: reading them in the same card makes the stronger one obvious. Then make the first seconds of the video deliver what the title promises.
Turn the title into an animation
A good title can also open the video. The Shorts hook headline and the animated title templates take your words and animate them in 16:9, 9:16 or square, ready to export on a transparent background for your editor.
Questions
- How many characters can a YouTube title have?
- Up to 100 characters, according to YouTube Help. Most layouts show fewer, so keep the important part in the first 60 or so.
- Do emojis count as characters?
- Yes. This checker counts each emoji as one character, the way you see it; to be sure of the final count, check it in YouTube Studio.
- Is the preview exactly what YouTube shows?
- It's an approximation. YouTube changes its layouts and every screen is different, but the font size and two-line cut are close to what viewers see.
