An After Effects alternative for motion graphics templates (an honest comparison)
After Effects is the industry tool for motion graphics and compositing. If you animate for a living, nothing here replaces it. But a lot of people searching for an alternative don't want to learn keyframes: they edit videos and need a subscribe button, a name title, a countdown or an animated map that looks professional, today.
That's what AnimateMyVideo is: 381 animated templates you edit in the browser (text, colors, numbers, photos), then export as a transparent overlay or over your own clip. This page explains where that's enough and where it isn't, so you can pick the right tool.
Who it's for, and who it isn't
A good fit if you
- edit in CapCut, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut and want ready-made graphics on top
- make YouTube videos, Shorts, TikToks, Reels, podcasts or tutorials
- need the same kind of graphic again and again, with different text
- don't want to install or learn a motion graphics program
Not a fit if you
- need to design and animate something entirely your own, frame by frame
- track, rotoscope or composite effects into your footage
- work in 3D scenes, with expressions or with After Effects plugins
- need to hand over an editable project file (.aep or .mogrt)

What AnimateMyVideo does
- 381 templates in 31 categories: subscribe buttons, lower thirds, countdowns, animated maps, bar chart races, rankings, captions, end screens and more.
- Every field is editable in the browser, with a live preview of exactly what you'll download.
- 16:9 for YouTube, 9:16 for Shorts, TikTok and Reels, and 1:1, always at least Full HD.
- Transparent ProRes 4444 .mov that sits on top of your footage in any editor, or an MP4 with your clip already behind it.
- Free tools that show the templates with your own name, numbers or route before you open anything.
What it doesn't do
- No timeline and no keyframes: you can't change how a template moves beyond its fields (timing, size, position, colors).
- No tracking, masking, rotoscoping or compositing of your footage.
- No 3D camera, expressions or plugins.
- No project files to take into After Effects or Premiere's Essential Graphics: you get a finished video file.
- Exporting needs an internet connection and an account.
The same task, two ways: an animated subscribe button
In After Effects
- Create a composition at the right size and frame rate.
- Draw the button, the text and the cursor as layers.
- Animate the click, the color change and the bell with keyframes and easing.
- Render with an alpha channel and import the file into your editor.
- For a vertical version, rebuild or rearrange the layout.
In AnimateMyVideo
- Open the subscribe button maker and type your channel name.
- Pick the style and the color you like from the live previews.
- Choose 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1 and «No background».
- Export and drop the .mov above your clip.
Using both
Plenty of editors keep After Effects for the one-off piece that needs it and use templates for the graphics that repeat in every video. A transparent .mov from AnimateMyVideo imports into After Effects like any other footage, so the two don't get in each other's way.
Questions
- Is AnimateMyVideo a free After Effects alternative?
- During the open beta, exporting is free: new accounts get credits at no cost. Editing and previewing are always free and need no account. After the beta there are paid plans.
- Can I make my own animation from scratch?
- Not with the templates: you change what each template exposes, not how it's built. If you need something that isn't in the library, some plans let you request a custom one; otherwise, After Effects is the right tool.
- Will the files work in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve and CapCut?
- Yes. The transparent .mov (ProRes 4444) works in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro and CapCut on desktop. On a phone, export it over your clip as an MP4.
- Do I need a powerful computer?
- No. The preview runs in the browser and the final video is rendered on our machines, so a regular laptop is enough.
- Is it online?
- Yes, it runs entirely in the browser. There's nothing to download except your finished video.
