Lower Third Templates for CapCut — Transparent, No Green Screen
CapCut has its own text presets, but they look like CapCut, and recreating a clean name strap with keyframes takes a while. These lower thirds come already animated: you type the name and the role, pick the side and the color, and export a file with a transparent background that sits on a track above your interview or podcast clip.
Set the side and the distance from the bottom in the editor before exporting. That way the strap lands where you want it and you don't have to move it in CapCut for every speaker.
Lower third · BarA dark panel with an accent bar unfolding, name and job title. The classic interview strap, done properly.
Lower third · PillA translucent rounded pill with the initial in a colored circle. Modern, works well on social.
Lower third · HairlineNo box: a colored rule drawing itself and the text rising. Documentary and clean.
Lower third · StickerA tilted flat-color sticker with a hard shadow. Fun, for vlogs and fast content.

Breaking news with tickerThe news bar: a colored block with the label, a big headline, the time to one side and a ticker of headlines…
Source creditThe strap that says where the clip came from. First only the badge with the logo appears, it waits a beat…
How to add it in CapCut
1. Fill in the strap
Open a template below, type the name and the role, choose left or right and the accent color. Pick 16:9 for YouTube or 9:16 for Shorts and Reels.
2. Export without background
You get a ProRes 4444 .mov with transparency, in Full HD. Make one file per person if your video has several speakers.
3. Add it on desktop
Import the .mov into your media and drag it onto a track above your main clip. Drag its ends on the timeline so it stays on screen for four or five seconds after the person starts talking.
4. Add it on the phone
Open your project, tap Overlay → Add overlay and choose the file from your gallery or Files. If you see a black box instead of your video, your app isn't reading the transparency: export «with your clip» instead and use that MP4.
5. Reuse it for the next appearance
Select the strap, copy it and paste it where the same person speaks again, so the name appears at the same spot every time.
For Shorts, raise the distance from the bottom in the editor: the caption and the username cover the lower part of a vertical video, and a lower third hidden under them is wasted. On a phone, ProRes files are big; the MP4 option is often the easier one.
Questions
- Does CapCut keep the transparent background?
- CapCut on desktop reads a .mov with an alpha channel and shows your video through it. On phones it depends on the app version and the device; if you see black, export the lower third already placed on your clip as an MP4.
- Can I change the font?
- Yes, in the editor before exporting: every template has a typeface option and an optional letter outline. In CapCut the strap is a video, so its text can't be edited there.
- Do I need After Effects?
- No. Every template is edited in your browser: type your text, choose colors and format (16:9, 9:16 or 1:1), watch the live preview and export.
- What do I export, and does it work in my editor?
- Most templates export as a ProRes 4444 .mov with a transparent background, which you place on a track above your clip in CapCut, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro. You can also export an MP4 with your own clip behind it. Always in Full HD.
- Is it free?
- Editing and previewing are free and need no account. To export you sign in with Google; during the open beta, new accounts get export credits at no cost.
